Daniel Montero

Daniel Montero is a Colombian-born, New York-based photographer whose work moves between landscapes, cities and automobiles. He is drawn to the geometry of natural forms, reflections that reshape architecture, and the brief changes in light that alter the feeling of a place.

His interest began on family trips, watching his father record the places and moments they shared. At fifteen, he received his first professional camera and began travelling with it. Self-taught, he developed his eye through that practice: looking for the right line, the changing light, the fleeting moment when a composition comes together.

Mountains wrapped in mist, reflective coastlines and urban scenes recur throughout his photographs. These subjects give form to his interest in solitude, presence and perception: the softness of a distant horizon, or the way a familiar building becomes unfamiliar in a reflection. He describes photography as a personal archive of the emotional character of places.

Visiting Peter Lik’s galleries helped shape his interest in how a photograph can transform a space. Montero describes his own work as a form of visual meditation, balancing stillness with the energy of light and colour. He wants the photographs to invite a pause and a closer look, and to become a lasting presence in the rooms where people live.
