About the photograph

Shutters, arches and small balconies build a dense rhythm above the canal. Boats gather at the base of the façade, where the pale wall gives way to dark water. The existing black-and-white treatment makes the building’s worn surfaces and irregular spacing particularly visible, while preserving the canal as an inhabited place.
