Rock Columns

Daniel Montero

Photographic study

About the photograph

Warm orange light catches a succession of rock columns, leaving deep recesses between them. Fine horizontal layers interrupt the vertical forms, while darker vegetation gathers below. The colour makes the illuminated surfaces feel close; the surrounding shadow keeps their full depth partly out of reach.

Rock Columns by Daniel Montero

Light separates a row of rock columns from the shadowed cliff. Horizontal seams cross the vertical faces, giving the formation a measured rhythm. Trees and scrub at the lower edge return that ordered structure to a less regular ground of small, crowded shapes.
