About the photograph
A pale moon and a white tower share the amber sky. At Cape Florida, the eye moves between these two bright forms before coming down to the tangled palms and grasses at their feet.
The lighthouse rises left of centre, leaving a broad stretch of colour open to its right. Its narrow shaft and dark lantern make a measured counterpoint to the round moon above. Along the bottom edge, vegetation breaks into innumerable small shapes. That change from open sky to dense ground gives the photograph its sense of shelter: a place to stand beneath something much larger.
